Dr. Lewis

Dr. Lewis is excited to continue to be a part of the Haven family. An Evanston native, Dr. Lewis is an ETHS and Northwestern graduate. She started her career at Oakton Elementary School while finishing her Masters in Special Education at Northeastern Illinois University. Dr. Lewis taught special education at a therapeutic day school and then moved to a mainstream high school to teach cross categorical math and assume the position of girls athletic director. After completing her administrative certificate Dr. Lewis obtained her first administrative position at a high school in the western suburbs.
Throughout her administrative career she has been a Coordinator, Assistant Principal, Director of Special Education, Executive Director, and an Assistant Superintendent. Dr. Lewis completed her Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 2013, writing her dissertation on current programs in juvenile detention facilities to reduce recidivism for African-American males.
Dr. Lewis recently became a fellow with the Georgetown University Center for Juvenile Justice Reform through the School and Justice Partnerships Certificate Program. She consults with school districts and other institutions on discipline, behavior, restorative processes, and reducing negative outcomes associated with the school-to-prison pipeline. Her goal is to publish her research in correctional and educational journals as well as write a book to help educational institutions create opportunities, policies, and procedures around helping students of color and their parents successfully navigate their schooling structures.
In her spare time, Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters traveling, taking photographs, and working out. All of the photos on Dr. Lewis' website were taken by her during her various travels around the world.
